ZIM: Media

Profile

The ZIM: Media is the point of contact for questions about media technology infrastructure, media production in research and teaching, the implementation of media technology-supported events at Paderborn University and practical media teaching as part of degree courses. The lending of presentation and production media is also part of the portfolio.

Organization and taks

The Media department is organized into four teams and is available to all members of UPB:

  •  media technology infrastructure
  •  media technology event service
  •  media production
  •  media practice

The ZIM: Media maintains, services and expands the media infrastructure (including media control systems, projectors and audio systems) in centrally managed lecture halls and seminar rooms.

Media technology services such as lecture recordings (in cooperation with the e-teaching team), streaming services, video conferences (including the use of conference rooms) and hybrid mobile event scenarios are supported in a variety of ways by the media technology event service.

The ZIM: Media team supports photo, video and audio production by advising on projects and providing studio space and production equipment. In special cases (e.g. in third-party funded projects), ZIM: Media also produces media projects for the scientific community with its own specialist staff (in cooperation with the users).

A special feature are the practical media courses as part of degree programmes, in which students of media studies and popular music and media are sensitized to professional media production. Practical media teaching is offered on behalf of the Institute of Media Studies and developed further in close cooperation. Among other things, the ZIM: Media runs student teaching editorial offices for TV and radio production, which can also be opened up to other degree courses (in the Studium Generale).

The Media Service Center in room H1.201 is the information point for media-specific solutions. Teachers and students can borrow mobile presentation and production media (e.g. photo or video cameras, audio equipment, notebooks, iPads) from the Media Service Center. The first principle in the use of media is help for self-help. At ZIM: Media, staff and student tutors therefore promote the media-competent use of the technology provided.
